Is an aesthetic treatment right for you?

By Dr. Raquel Amado on the 09th March 2020

Are you considering an aesthetic treatment?

Are you not sure where to go and who to trust?

Perhaps you have some concerns, and you don’t know where to start?

I understand. As an experienced dentist and medical aesthetic practitioner, I speak to many clients who have never had treatments before or who have had bad experiences in the past.

Making the decision to undergo an aesthetic treatment isn’t one that comes lightly. Many of my clients have been researching for years, asking friends for recommendations and looking online for reviews and testimonials. It’s important to not only find the right treatment that will achieve the results you want, but also to find the right practitioner – someone who is medically qualified, insured and can offer friendly, no-pressure advice to put you at ease.

It’s a huge honour and pleasure when someone chooses me for a free consultation to find out how I can help them. Often there are many questions, fears and concerns that we need to discuss in detail before we both agree if we are right for each other – or not.

To give you a bit of an insight into some of the common pre-treatment concerns I’ve encountered, some of my happy clients have shared their own experiences. Hopefully, this might help you decide whether to take that first step and come to meet with me.

FINDING THE RIGHT FIT

Many people worry they will feel rushed into a treatment that isn’t right for them by a professional who is more concerned about making money than about their client’s best interests.

That’s not how I work. I always look at treatments from the point of view of what is best for the patient, so will never try to push a treatment that my client doesn’t need or want. Any treatment I recommend is tailored specifically to each individual’s needs, and I make the time to answer all of their questions, explain the procedure, risks and benefits and aftercare, and give them the time they need to reflect and make the decision that is right for them.

My client Claire Hutchins shared her own experiences of this in her video testimonial:

“I went to Raquel after doing a lot of research about where to go for lip fillers. I had previously been to a very well known, reputable clinic in London; while they didn’t do a bad job, they made it feel very rushed and that I was just a number. Whereas with Raquel, she took her time, she discussed the whole procedure and made me feel at ease, and I’ve had so many compliments about my lips I will definitely be going back. Thanks Raquel!”sq

NO PAIN, NO GAIN?

One big fear many clients have is about what could go wrong as the result of lack of experience or skill on the behalf of the practitioner. From bruising or irritation of the skin, to swollen or uneven lips – this is a common worry that causes people to hesitate in making the decision to have aesthetic treatments.

As a qualified dentist, trained aesthetics practitioner and clinical mentor for aesthetics procedures at Harley Academy, I am more than capable to administer the treatments I offer. I continually work to keep up with the latest best practice and procedures in the industry, and would never put my clients’ welfare at risk. I strongly believe that detailed and dedicated pre- and after-care is a vital part of a good aesthetic treatment experience, and because of this, I am always on-hand for follow up questions and consultations.

I offer this not only to ease my clients’ minds and ensure they are taking care of themselves post treatment, but also to minimise pain where possible and lessen side effects.

My wonderful client Fiona Vaughan shared her views about this in her recent review:

“I had my first visit with Dr Raquel last week. What a lovely, kind lady. I felt totally at ease and instant trust in her. I went with an idea of what I wanted, went with her recommendation and could not be happier with the results.

The treatment was pain free and I didn’t bruise which can often happen. The reassurance I could contact her 24/7 with any concerns was a great peace of mind.

I chose Dr Raquel due to her reviews but also because she is a dentist. The knowledge of dentistry was important to me as the structure of the face is actually quite complex. With a dentist doing this sort of treatment the chances of any sort of unwanted effects is significantly lessened.”

ENHANCING NATURAL BEAUTY

Another concern high on the list of many people looking to have aesthetic treatments is the fear of looking ‘plastic’. My clients often worry about treatments having too drastic an effect, giving them a pinched, frozen look – rather than enhancing the natural beauty of their skin and features.

I believe there is no such thing as a ‘one stop shop’ when it comes to aesthetic treatments. As all of my clients have different skincare and beauty needs, my treatments are all tailored for each individual client.

I consult with each person to get a solid understanding of exactly what it is they are looking for – be that chemical peels, Botox, or dermal fillers – and then recommend what I think is the best way forward for them, drawing from my expertise, so that we can decide on a treatment journey together. The treatments I offer are designed to give a natural-looking result, reducing signs of ageing and revitalising natural beauty.

This was a concern shared by my client Sparkle and Shine Hayward in her review:

“Can’t recommend Raquel highly enough. I was absolutely terrified of looking plastic and frozen from having Botox. I talked through my fears with Raquel during my consultation with her at her mini clinic which is a modern, stylish, calming, professional, clean environment.

We decided to do half the injection points that are usually treated on my forehead, to get started and have possibly more on my follow up visit to check it was all OK. The results are really amazing. I just love it! I still have lots of movement and it looks so natural, but has really boosted my confidence and I don’t shudder when I look in the mirror anymore.

I chose Raquel as she’s a lovely, easy to talk to lady, highly professional and takes pride in her profession. She’s also a qualified dentist, therefore for me, knows the facial muscles better than anyone. I was in safe hands, got the results I wanted and at an affordable price.”
