What are exosomes?
Within every cell in your body there are structures called endosomes. These contain wound-healing properties such as proteins, amino acids and growth factors.
When endosomes are released from cells, they are known as exosomes. It’s their job to find other cells that may be damaged or inflamed and regenerate them. Exosomes are also able to find other proteins within the body and direct them to damaged cells to further help with rejuvenation.
By repairing damaged and inflamed cells, exosomes are essentially treating skin conditions and improving skin quality.
Can exosome treatment help with hair restoration?
Yes, exosome treatment can certainly help with hair restoration by regenerating hair follicles. When follicles are in poor condition, this has an impact on your hair – growth will be restricted, while it can appear thin, dry, and brittle. Your scalp can also be inflamed and irritated.
By addressing this damage with exosome treatment, we can rejuvenate hair follicles so they begin to work properly again, leading to increased growth and better quality hair!
What does exosomes treatment involve?
At Dr Raquel Skin & Medical Cosmetics, we use Purasomes from DermaFocus. They are combined with hyaluronic acid, peptides, amino acids, vitamins and minerals to offer you the most effective treatment possible.
This cocktail of active ingredients is delivered to its target area via microneedling – a process that uses small needles to create tiny punctures in the skin or scalp, which allow the solution to penetrate and get to work transforming your skin and hair quality.
Microneedling is often used as a stand-alone treatment without exosomes. The wounds created from the tiny punctures are encouraged to heal and skin renews itself, so you see improvement in fine lines and wrinkles, as well as conditions such as acne, scarring and hyperpigmentation. Combining microneedling with exosome treatment therefore leads to even better results.
Depending on the severity of your skin concerns, we recommend three to five sessions every two to three weeks. For hair, a minimum of five treatments is advised. You’ll also need to use a special shampoo and serum to boost results.
What results are expected from exosome treatment?
Exosome treatment works wonders for all sorts of skin concerns such as rosacea, eczema and psoriasis. It can improve skin tightness and texture, decrease hyperpigmentation, encourage wound and scar healing, increasing hydration and radiance, and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
You can expect to notice a difference two weeks after your first appointment thanks to the hyaluronic acid contained within the treatment cocktail. Results specifically from the exosomes will be noticeable after approximately three months.
Hair treated with exosomes will appear brighter and fuller, while growth will restart and new hair will feel stronger. Your scalp will also be less irritated and dry. You’ll see a difference six months to a year after treatment.
How long does exosome treatment last?
Exosomes cannot halt ageing, so you will need further treatment as you get older. For both skin and hair rejuvenation, we recommend having top-up exosome treatment every four to six months to maintain results.
Who can benefit from exosome treatment?
Anyone and everyone can benefit from exosome treatment! Much like PRP therapy, there are no contraindications as exosomes are found naturally in the body.
In very rare cases, some people may be allergic to other ingredients included in the exosome solution. By providing us with a thorough medical history in your consultation we aim to identify these beforehand and advise against treatment.
Are there any side effects to exosome treatment?
During the procedure you should expect a little discomfort, which will subside after two to four hours.
Following exosome treatment you may experience slight swelling, redness and bruising, which should go down 24-48 hours after treatment.
In extremely rare cases, some people may experience a previously unidentified allergic reaction to ingredients within the exosome solution. If this happens, please be assured that we have detailed procedures and anaphylaxis training in place to treat you.
