Boost your wellbeing with holistic aesthetics

By Dr. Raquel Amado on the 22nd January 2021

A third lockdown is underway, and experts have warned of a decline in the nation’s physical and mental wellbeing. With gyms closed and a stay-at-home order in place, most people haven’t been getting as much exercise as usual. Add this to an increase in alcohol and unhealthy food consumption, and you’ve got the perfect storm.

I’m no different. I’m finding it difficult to maintain my routine and stay positive amid all this doom and gloom. That’s why I decided to write this blog; we all need a reminder (myself included!) that if we don’t get the right kind of nourishment, it can affect us both mentally and physically.

THE WAY TO WELLBEING

Many of us are feeling stressed, sad and sluggish right now. So how can we improve our sense of wellbeing during lockdown and beyond?

It’s all about giving our bodies the nourishment they need.

The importance of holistic health is often overlooked. While I love working with my patients to find the aesthetic treatment that works for them, I also always encourage a holistic approach to their concerns.  Many skin and health problems can be improved with the right combination of vitamins and nutrients.

BOOST YOUR BODY’S SELF-DEFENCE

Supplements are a great way of getting those much-needed but often neglected nutrients.

There are so many supplements advertised these days that it can be difficult to know which ones will actually make a difference. All of the supplements I recommend below I take, or have previously taken myself, and have noticed a real improvement in my overall health because of them.

JUICE+

It can be a struggle to eat our recommended portions of fruit and vegetables, which are vital to good health. Even when we are able to eat between five and 10 portions a day, they might not be the best quality or offer the right combination of nutrients needed by our bodies.

I personally struggle with this. Even if I am very good one day, I can’t consistently do it for seven days a week, 365 days a year. That’s why I take Juice+. Firstly, it’s available in pill form, making it easy to take. Secondly, it’s packed with a wide variety of the best organic nutrients from vegetables and fruits.

OMEGAS

Omegas have so many health benefits that it would be crazy not to include them in this list. Omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9 are fatty acids that give your body the energy it needs to stay healthy.

Omega-3 is probably the most well-known, but omegas -6 and -9 are also important to keep your body thriving. The long list of benefits that omegas offer include lowering blood pressure and improving heart health. They also help enhance the appearance of your skin, giving it a healthy, natural radiance.

Really important for the mental impact of lockdown, omega-3 has also been linked with supporting a heathy mind, helping to manage feelings of depression and anxiety.

SKINADE

I love Skinade – I drink it as my evening “treat”. This supplement includes active ingredients and essential micronutrients which boost the natural production of collagen and hyaluronic acid in your body. This gives your skin a natural vitality, making you appear more youthful. It’s so easy to include in your daily routine, however busy you are, as it is taken orally as a drink (which I happen to think also tastes quite nice!)

SKINADE DERMA DEFENCE

Skinade Derma Defense A and D Boost is a more targeted solution than the daily Skinade supplement, especially useful in the winter months. During this time, we don’t get as much sunshine to activate and produce vitamin D in our bodies. This affects our mood and bone loss density. Derma Defence helps to build up the skin’s natural ability to protect itself. It increases skin hydration and moisture levels, so that your skin is looks rejuvenated.

PRE- AND PROBIOTICS

You’d be surprised how much of a difference taking care of your gut makes to your overall sense of wellbeing. Pre- and probiotics encourage a healthy colony of good bacteria and other microorganisms in your stomach. This aids digestion, and can relieve all sorts of stomach issues, like diarrhoea or constipation. It also boosts your immune system. This gives you more energy and makes your body and mind more active and able to cope with whatever the day throws your way.

FIND WHAT WORKS FOR YOUR WELLBEING

This is just a condensed list of my favourite supplements to help improve your mental and physical wellbeing. We are all different, and so will need a different combination of nutrients to get us feeling and looking our best.

I believe in holistic aesthetics. This means trying to treat your concerns with a mix of the right kind of supplements and nutrients, as well as clinic treatments. It’s so important for us to remember the value of caring for our bodies – on the inside, as well as the outside.
