What are dark circles?

Sometimes known as tear troughs, the area just below the eyes can begin to appear sunken or shadowed, taking on a purple or blue tinge. This can make us look tired or give the appearance of premature ageing.

What causes dark circles?

As we age, our skin loses some of its elasticity and ability to naturally produce collagen. The natural pillows of fat underneath our skin can also start to diminish, meaning our faces begin to change shape and give us a “sunken” appearance under our eyes.

What treatments are available?

Polynucleotides
Polynucleotide treatment for dark circles under the eyes utilizes the regenerative power of polynucleotides to rejuvenate and hydrate the delicate under-eye skin. This innovative approach enhances skin elasticity, reduces pigmentation, and stimulates collagen production, thereby diminishing the appearance of dark circles and improving overall skin texture. It’s a non-surgical, minimally invasive treatment that offers a refreshed and more youthful look, leveraging the body’s natural healing processes for lasting results.

Tear trough filler
Although not everyone is suitable for the treatment, a small amount of high quality filler can be injected into the under eye area to plump up the sunken skin. This will help reduce the shadowy look under the eye, making your eyes look brighter and more youthful.

Are dermal fillers safe?

Dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid-based fillers and have one of the best safety profiles of any injectable treatment, due to their biodegradable nature. They are minimally invasive and safe, if done by an experienced medical professional. As with any procedure, there are possible risks, the most common being post-procedure redness, bruising and swelling. All risks will be discussed on your consultation.

Do dermal fillers hurt?

I do everything I can to reduce discomfort and make the treatment as pleasant as possible. A topical local anaesthetic can be used in the area to be treated before the procedure, and any needles used during the treatment are very small in size. My experience and approach to patient care makes all procedures I do comfortable and safe.

How long do dermal fillers last?

Dermal fillers can last anywhere between three to 18 months. This will depend on the type of filler injected, the amount of filler used, the area of the face being treated and how active it is. It is also affected by how quickly your body naturally breaks down the filler, which will vary from person to person. During our consultation, we can discuss this in detail, taking into consideration your specific needs.

Do dermal fillers have any side effects?

Dermal fillers are minimally invasive and most people can return to their normal life immediately after treatment. However, all treatments pose some risk; the common side effects are redness, swelling and bruising. Allergic reactions are very rare but can occur. If you suffer from cold sores, it’s advisable to do preventive medication before treatment

During your treatment journey with me, I will listen to your concerns and then use my experience and medical knowledge to create a treatment plan that will suit you specifically. This means you will never look “fake” or “plastic”, while still achieving the results you desire.
