Shower Smarter: Dr. Raquel’s Winter Skin Care Tips
In a recent article by GB News, Dr. Raquel Amado, Clinic Director of Dr. Raquel Skin & Medical Cosmetics, provided expert advice on maintaining skin hydration during the winter months. She emphasised that while long, hot showers and baths may offer comfort in cold weather, they can significantly dehydrate the skin. Dr. Amado explained that hot water strips the skin of its natural oils, leading to dryness and irritation. She recommended opting for shorter showers with lukewarm water to preserve the skin’s moisture barrier.
Dr. Amado also highlighted the importance of moisturising immediately after bathing. Applying a rich, hydrating moisturiser while the skin is still damp helps to lock in moisture, keeping the skin supple and preventing dryness. She advised choosing products containing humectants like glycerin and hyaluronic acid, which attract and retain moisture in the skin.

Additionally, Dr. Amado suggested using a humidifier indoors to combat the drying effects of central heating. Maintaining adequate humidity levels can prevent the skin from becoming dry and flaky. She also recommended staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water, as internal hydration reflects on the skin’s appearance.
At Dr. Raquel Skin & Medical Cosmetics, the focus is on personalised skincare regimens tailored to individual needs. Our team can offer comprehensive consultations to develop effective skincare plans, ensuring optimal skin health throughout the year.
Dr. Amado’s insights, as featured in GB News, underscore her commitment to educating the public on best practices for skin care, particularly during challenging seasons like winter. Her expertise continues to guide individuals toward healthier and more radiant skin, throughout the country and internationally.
