Hair restoration treatments: Don’t suffer from alopecia alone!
Suffering from hair loss can really affect your self-confidence. But it’s more common than you might think, and hair restoration treatments have come a long way. You’re definitely not the only one going through it!
There is a lot of stigma surrounding unwanted hair loss. There really shouldn’t be, as it affects many people – both men and women, of all ages – around the world. In fact, it’s something I have personally experienced – so I wanted to share my own story with you.
From a young age, I suffered from androgenic alopecia and my hair was very thin. As you can imagine, I was very self-conscious about it – it knocked my confidence, especially going through this at such a young age.
From between the ages of 14 to 16, I started trying numerous topical treatments. For the hair specialists I consulted, it was a bit of a guessing game when it came to finding the right topical and oral medicines for me. Luckily, nowadays there are so many more effective options for hair restoration, and in 2016, I finally decided to have a hair transplant.
My results were incredible, but I had to shave my hair before the procedure in order to achieve a better outcome. My recovery from the transplant took about one week – but it took about six months before I was able to style my hair again.

Before and after my hair transplant and hair restoration treatments
While the results were great, it unfortunately wasn’t a complete solution for me. Because I suffer from a genetic condition, I will always have to be careful and maintain a regime of treatments to my scalp to counteract my genetic pre-disposition.
That’s why I started investigating ways in which I could promote scalp health and hair growth, to help sustain the results of my hair transplant.
I believe that a holistic approach is needed to get the best, long-lasting outcome. Anyone who knows me knows that I like to try all the treatments I offer in my clinic – I wouldn’t feel comfortable recommending them to my patients without seeing the results for myself first.
I have found that a combination of the TrichoTest, a personalised prescription, in-clinic treatments and good nutrition is the secret for great looking hair.
I’m so excited to now be offering these hair loss treatments in clinic. All therapies are recommended in conjunction with one another, to ensure a thorough and balanced treatment plan for your alopecia.
TRICHOTEST
Every person is different, and so the underlying cause of their hair loss – and the eventual treatment – will also be different from person to person. That’s what makes the TrichoTest by Fagron so innovative.
TrichoTest uses state-of-the-art technology to test your DNA, analysing your genetic pre-disposition to alopecia, lifestyle factors and medical history.
This helps identify what topical and oral treatment solutions will be the most effective for you as an individual, meaning you will receive a personalised prescription for long-term treatment and the best possible results.
The process is simple – all I need to do is take a swab from the inside of your mouth, while you complete a questionnaire about your lifestyle. This will then be sent off to Fagron laboratories, where specially trained technicians will then produce a report of the results of your test. This will indicate the best course of treatment for your specific type of alopecia.
MICRONEEDLING
I’ve blogged about microneedling before; it’s not only a great treatment for rejuvenating the face, but it can work wonders for the scalp, too.
Microneedling helps promote collagen production, which is vital for the rejuvenation of skin, ensuring it stays healthy and helping it to heal. Collagen isn’t just essential for keeping your face looking firm and youthful, it’s also needed to keep hair follicles strong and increase nutrient-rich blood flow to the scalp to promote hair growth.
Microneedling for hair loss is the same as for facial microneedling. I use the SkinPen, which is FDA-approved and holds a British Standards Institute (BSI) Kitemark certification, and ensures the health and safety of my clients.
The SkinPen makes tiny punctures in the upper layer of the skin, boosting your blood-flow, immune system, and production of collagen and elastin.
SKINGENUITY
The SkinGenuity Hair Restoration home kit is another therapy I recommend as part of a hair loss treatment plan.
SkinGenuity products aim to encourage hair growth by delivering targeted growth factors and natural botanicals directly to the scalp, increasing the number of and stimulating hair follicles.
The kit contains a hollow needle brush and an advanced botanical solution to help repair and regenerate the skin of the scalp.
We will also discuss ways in which nutrition and your diet can have an effect on hair loss – although that’s a whole other blog post!
Every client’s journey will be different, but by using these therapies to develop a personal treatment plan, we can achieve the best results for your individual type of alopecia.
And the boost to your confidence will be well worth it – trust me, I know!
In the video below, I tell the story of my own experience of hair loss.
